Community-Based Marine Resource Management in Southeast Asia: Benefits, Challenges and Lessons from Four Countries

RCM’s Virtual UN Ocean Conference Side Event

Reef Check Malaysia had the honour of hosting its first UN Ocean Conference 2025 Side Event.

From over 120 applications to host a side event, Reef Check Malaysia’s application was approved and we’re honoured to share the opportunity with our fellow Southeast Asian countries.

Across Southeast Asia, community-based marine resource management (CBMRM) has proven to be a critical approach in protecting coastal ecosystems and supporting sustainable livelihoods. But what are the real benefits, challenges, and lessons from implementation in the region?

This webinar explored CBMRM from three key perspectives — Community, Policy/Legal, and Science — drawing on insights from country representatives who shared their national experiences.
